British Values Statement

The government set out its definition of ‘British Values’ in the ‘Prevent Strategy’ (2011), which was designed to prevent the extremism and religious radicalisation of young people. British values are considered by the government to be:

• Democracy
• The rule of law
• Individual liberty
• Mutual respect
• Tolerance of those of different faiths and beliefs

St Paul’s Junior School is a Catholic school which seeks to live out the values of Jesus Christ. The promotion of ‘British Values’ is central to Catholic education because these values have their origin in the Christian values of our nation. At St Paul’s Catholic Junior School, we provide an education that focuses on the formation of the whole person and on our vocation and purpose in life – Love God, Love Life, Love Learning. We also provide a wide range of extracurricular activities and strong pastoral support. We incorporate democratic principles, value the rule of law, support individual liberty and foster a community in which different faiths and beliefs are respected.

• Children are given the freedom to make choices, e.g. what activity they do at lunchtime or which afterschool club they join in with.
• Children participate in child-led activities which develop problem solving andunderstanding – Primary Inspirations mornings, maths workshops and activity mornings, book at breakfast mornings, trips, residential projects, etc.
• Children learn to exercise freedoms responsibly and constructively when choosing work partners, projects and groups in certain areas of the curriculum
